Christmas Trio with Katrina Thompson

Hello and Welcome. Today I am sharing my last, in a set of 3 Christmas cards, using the beautiful new Let Every Day Be Christmas range created by Tina Higgins. For this card I have created a Step Card with a centre display.
I love this style of card and this one can easily be created in 30mins, including cutting your own template. Having the centre display allows you to showcase the design elements and for this card I have incorporated Hot Foil Stamping, the A4 Paper Pad and Ephemera. I hope you enjoy. K

Using the Matt Gold Foil board I have cut the new Merry Christmas Decorative Die.

Using the new Ornate Christmas Frame Hot Foil Stamp, I have foiled the satin finish blue over the Matt Gold Foil board and trimmed around the outer and inner edges to create a frame.

With the Die cutting and foiling complete I have selected a few pieces from the Ephemera collection. I have trimmed around the outer edges to enhance the images and one placing them on the card I decide which leaves I might trim off to fit the design and the frame.

I have used a sheet of the A4 Ultimate Crafts Cardstock in Snow White to create the Step Base.
I have made the width of this card 14.70cm. The centre panel being 9.7cm and the 2 side steps being 2.5cm each. Use the entire length of the cardstock, which when scored in half will be 14.8 cm. This gives a nice proportion with plenty of room to create on your centre display.

I found these 2 prints from the A4 Paper Pad to blend well, while giving a good contrast in colour.
Using the dimensions from my Step Base I cut the panels accordingly, giving a 2mm edge all around. Consider which design elements from the A4 papers you wish to feature, ie. I wanted the bird centred on the main panel and the floral pieces matching in placement for the 2 side panels.

Once cut, I inked around the edges in a coordinating colour. Using a dauber will ensure a soft effect.
Attach flat to each of the panels ready to embellish.

As pictured, attach your frame central over the bird image and the smaller cluster of flowers in the top right corner. Cut the set of 2 large white roses to separate each flower. Attach the smaller half rose in the bottom left corner of the frame area and the larger full rose I have attached to the inside of the card to carry the design through the card. Attach the final ephemera flower and foliage piece overlapping the half rose, then the Merry Christmas to finish.

Thankyou so much for looking. Now the Christmas Card Trio is complete and I am looking forward to sharing a new creation soon.

Happy Creating, K x

Merry Christmas with Katrina Thompson

Hi Everyone,

Katrina with you today, spreading some more Christmas in July joy by sharing a new card using the beautiful tones of the "Let Every Day Be Christmas" collection by Tina Higgins. I have incorporated the new Hot Foil stamps to create a unique centrepiece coordinating with the papers, ephemera and dies. You could even leave off the Christmas greeting and turn your card into an everyday option.
I hope you enjoy!

Using the bird print from the A4 Paper Pad, slice a piece 9.5cm from the bottom edge. From the bottom edge of your cut piece tear away an edge of 0.5 leaving a length of 9cm. You can wet and tear, or score and tear or use your ruler. I tear the edges further after making the initial tear line also. Trim to a width of 17.5cm as pictured. I have cut around the head of the birdie in the top right corner so it stays whole and makes a small feature.

Cut a piece from the Damask Matt Gold, 17.5cm wide x 4cm high.

Use the Matt Silver Mirror board, the blue satin foil and the Ornate Christmas Frame hot foil stamp in your Go Press and Foil machine to create your frame.
Cut around the oval leaving a small border around the outer edge, then cut the centre away to allow for the Ephemera piece to be placed inside.
Using the Christmas Branches decorative dies cut one set from the bird print and another from the mirror board. Overlap the print as pictured to create a shadow effect.

To embellish our cluster first use the Merry Christmas hot foil stamp with silver foil over matt gold mirror board to create your greeting. Take another of the ephemera pieces as pictured, one half of the leaf border strips from the A4 paper pad and a few random pip berries.

Colour your Couture Creations rose using a mixture of watered down Buttercup Liquid Drops and Blue Pigment powder. Paint it on with a fine paintbrush and a dauber for easy access.
Wrap your 6mm tape around the bottom and side edges of the Damask and top and side edges of the Bird print so you have 3mm each side. Using your scraps lightly tap the foil, coloured side up, onto the tape creating a faux gilding effect.
Dull down the edges afterwards with a white ink to give it a more muted look.

Cut a rectangle from the Snow White cardstock 17.8cm wide x 25.3cm long, (7x10inches). Score and fold in half to make a card base.
Attach the Gold Damask print, edged in foil, to the lower edge of the card base.
Attach the 1cm strip of Silver behind the bottom edge of the bird print so 0.5cm is showing from behind. Distress the lower edge so some white shows through then attach the whole piece to the top edge of the card overlapping slightly with the damask.
Attach the Ephemera and Hot foil frame centred with 3D foam tape. Cut the leaf border strip from the A4 papers as pictured, then trim the leaf pattern in half again. Attach 2 strips either side of the ephemera frame to create another layer.

Arrange the die cut branches and ephemera foliage, the large rose and Merry Christmas sentiment as pictured. Embellish the rose and leaves with some Crystalina Glitzin' glamour to give it a sparkle to finish.

Thankyou for looking. K x

Christmas in July with Katrina Thompson

Hello and Welcome to my first post as part of your new Design Team for 2017/18.
We are now past that half yearly mark and if you haven't already started, now is the perfect opportunity to begin your Christmas creating.
The new "Let Every Day Be Christmas" range is simply beautiful with striking muted tones that blend seamlessly.
I have created todays soft and shabby layered card using the A4 paper pad, a few elements from the ephemera pack and the beautiful Baroque Background Die from the extensive range of dies in this collection.

From the A4 Paper Pad I have cut one of the circular designs from the sheet pictured above. From the sheet pictured below I have cut a square base as the focus image, the main body of which being 10.3cm. Include all of the birds and foliage outside the 10.3cm to add a point of interest.

I have cut the Baroque Background from the Ultimate Crafts Snow White cardstock.

Using the same A4 piece that I cut the focus image from, I have cut a square 12.3cm.Trimming the sides of the die cut, I have attached it over the yellow portion of the square.

Distress the edges of the square in a coordinating colour. Using your dauber to give it a softer more blended look. Distress the solid edges of the focus image to give it a more defined look as you attach your layers.

Firstly don't cut the barcode strip away from your sheet as your going to need the length when creating your card base. Cut your A4 sheet to a width of 15.25cm,(6 inches), as above. From the plain edge fold and score in half to create the square card base, trimming the barcode excess away to finish. Ink around the edges with a dauber in a coordinating colour to blend.

Now you have your card base, cut a white mat 14cm, then a yellow plaid 13.6cm. Distress the edges of the white and ink the edges of the plaid to blend. Layer onto the card base then attach to focus piece.
Select a small rose, the bird and the branch from the Ephemera pack. Cut the branch in two as pictured. Arrange as pictured below and attach with 3d foam.

It's always nice to decorate the inside of your card to give it a completed look. Use your offcuts and additional layers of card to make it easy to write on. I have finished it off with one of the larger  Roses from the Ephemera pack.
